2010-07-03

A strike from 30 yards by midfielder Austin White was all that was needed to give Brantford Galaxy a 1-0 victory over Montreal Impact Academy in a game that turned into a rough and tumble affair at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal, the only game played in the CSL Saturday.

The goal was scored at the 13th minute mark when White's drive beat Academy goalkeeper Maximilien Carle to catch the right corner of the net. The play was end to end following the goal for a 1-0 score at half time and into the second half.

Montreal Impact Academy has several opportunities for an equalizer, particularly from Anthony Jackson-Hamel who did find the net but the goal was ruled offside.

The game turned chippy and physical as it progressed in the second half into added time and referee Francis Latulitp did show the red card to Galaxy midfielder Milodrag Andvelkovic at 91 minutes following a series a yellow cards during the last 20 minutes of the game.

The win gives Galaxy a 5-2-2 WLT record for 17 points to move the Brantford team to third position in the CSL standings behind leaders York Region Shooters and Milltown FC in a close race for the First Division title. Montreal Impact Academy are at 2-5-4 for 10 points.

There are two games in the CSL Sunday when TFC Academy visit Esther Shiner Stadium, that's a 2.15 pm kickoff and London City visit Victoria Park in Brampton for a game with the Lions at 3 pm.
