2010-06-12

Yannik Rome-Gosselin, a striker with Montreal Impact Academy, led his team with a first half hat-trick to outplay St. Catharines Wolves 5-0 at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal, the only game scheduled in the Canadian Soccer League on Saturday.

Rome-Gosselin, 25, who was prominent with Trois-Rivieres Attak in 2009, scoring 8 goals to be fifth in the CSL leading goalscorer standings, opened the scoring for the Impact academy team five minutes into the game, scored a second five minutes later and after just 22 minutes took a pass from forward Guillaume Heroux to drive the ball from 18 yards to complete the natural hat-trick.

Down 3-0 at half-time, St. Catharines had trouble marshalling a rally to get back into the game and at the 70th minute midfielder Kevin Cossette struck a fourth Montreal goal and this was followed 8 minutes later by a fifth for the Quebec side when Anthony Jackson-Hamel put the ball past stand-in Wolves' goalkeeper Mike Pratley taking the place of regular 'keeper Dino Perri.

St. Catharines were playing with 10 men during the second half when Tony Mermigas was shown a second yellow card and was sent-off.

There are three games scheduled in the CSL First Division Sunday, Milltown FC visits Victoria Park for a game with Brampton Lions at 3 pm, Toronto Croatia will travel to Esther Shiner Stadium for a game with the Astros at 3.45 pm and Brantford Galaxy host York Region Shooters in an evening game at Lions Park in Brantford, game time is at 7 pm.
