SHOOTERS, ASTROS SCORE WINS SUNDAY ......... Toronto Croatia and Milltown FC play to a 1-1 tie

York Region Shooters bounced back from a defeat Friday to blank Portugal FC 2-0, North York Astros won their second game of the season, defeating Brampton Lions 3-2 and Toronto Croatia scored late to tie Milltown FC 1-1, three games in the CSL Sunday.

Forward Mahyar Kohbad led the Astros with two goals for the victory over Brampton Lions at Esther Shiner Stadium, he scored at the 14th minute and following a tying goal from the penalty spot by Brampton's Judah Hernandez at 27 minutes, Kohbad struck his second when he beat Roy Blanche in the visitors' goal at 34 minutes for a 2-1 North York lead at the interval.

It was a close encounter in the second half, but the Astros went ahead 3-1 when midfielder Mohamed Aborig found the net at 52 minutes. That was followed by a goal from Lions' forward Norde Gooden who beat the home goalkeeper Nelson Zamora at 71 minutes to reduce the Astros lead to 3-2, the final score.

York Region Shooters came back from a sub-par effort on Friday night, a 3-0 loss to Serbian White Eagles, to shut-out Portugal FC at Maple. Forward Kadian Lecky struck for the home side just five minutes into the game and Mario Orestano made it 2-0 when he pushed the ball past Portugal goalkeeper Mike Silva at 59 minutes from a goalmouth scramble.

The Shooters lost midfielder Nick Cisternino when he was shown the red card for Serious Foul Play at 70 minutes, but went on to a 2-0 victory to keep the York Region side on top of the standings with 13 points.

Milltown FC traveled to Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke for their away game with Toronto Croatia and the visitors took the lead on a goal at 32 minutes from Eros Olazabal who beat Croatia 'keeper Sandi Matika with a shot from 20 yards, the score at the interval.

Toronto Croatia had a decided edge in play going into the second half and tied the score 1-1 at 79 minutes on a goal by Hugo Herrera who found the net from 6 yards. The game ended 1-1.

In Reserve Division action in the CSL over the weekend, Brampton Lions Reserves blanked North York Astros Reserves, 4-0, Milltown Reserves edged Hamilton Croatia Reserves 2-1, Portugal FC Reserves downed Serbian White Eagles Reserves, 4-1 and St. Catharines Wolves Reserves played to a 1-1 tie with York Region Shooters

There were two exhibition games played, it was TFC Academy II 5, Ottawa 1 and Brantford Galaxy Reserves dominated Ottawa, 8-0.

There will be mid-week action in the CSL First Division when St. Catharines Wolves play at home to TFC Academy on Wednesday, that's an 8 pm kickoff at Club Roma.
