Expansion across the province, reaching out to the community grassroots level with a strong development program and working with others were the main features of a holiday message from the CSL's Domenic Di Gironimo during an interview on the OSA's website late December.

During a wide-ranging interview by a hard-hitting Anthony Totera on the OSATv Touchline, the CSL chairman asked the soccer community to look forward and not dwell on the past when it comes to progress in Canadian soccer, including Canada's national team and its lack of presence in the World Cup.

Di Gironimo considers development of Canada's teenage players a key ingredient to improve the product on the pitch for his own Canadian Soccer League and it's that same development of Canada's soccer youth that will improve the game at an even higher level --reaching eventually to the national team.

"The CSL has a role to play and there is a willingness to build a national program that we all need," he said.

In December also, Canada's largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, announced its best photos of 2009 and in sports a picture from CSL Championship action made the list.

Taken by Star photographer Rick Madonik ( using 3200 ISO, 2.8 aperture, 1/640th of a second shutter) the picture shows Kevin Cossette (Trois-Rivieres Attak) and Uros Stamatovic (Serbian White Eagles) doing battle.
