THREE WOLVES SENT OFF “DURING” 1-0 LOSS TO TORONTO
A well placed shot by Toronto’s Brian Ashton off a Nikki Vignjevic feed in the 14th minute proved to be all the scoring the Lynx needed as Toronto defeated Connecticut, 1-0, before 1,052 rain drenched fans at Centennial Stadium in Kitchener, Ontario.
It was an well played match on both sides right to the end, well almost. In the second half, Toronto was setting up for a free kick deep in the Wolves end of the field when time ran out, but the Referee declared there was still 7 seconds remaining, even though both teams were ready to leave the field. Wolves midfielders Martin Tierney and Johnny Vaughan each received two sets of Yellow Cards. After the players were sent off, Toronto gently tapped the ball to Wolves Keeper Chuck Martini, who kicked the ball into the stands as time expired the second time around. The action prompted another Red Card Ejection, this time to Martini. The ejections are under review by the league.
