Battery Downs Shuts Out Toronto

The Charleston Battery finally won a game in regulation at home when Lee Hurst overlapped down the left side and sent a cross over to Bernie Lilavois running in to the right side of Toronto’s penalty area in the 52nd minute. Lilavois controlled the ball with his right foot and then hit a viscous shot with his left past Lynx keeper Hubert Busby from 10 yards out.

Once again the Battery dominated their opponents at home, outshooting the Lynx 14 to 7. Battery forward Patrick Olalere almost scored a spectacular bicycle kick goal in the 28th minute which was just tipped over the bar by Busby. Defender Lee Hurst hit a great shot from 25 yards out in the 35th minute which was once again denied by Busby.

Toronto’s best chance came a minute after the Battery scored when a through ball found former Battery player, Terry St. Louis behind the Battery defense with a one on one with keeper Bo Oshoniyi. Oshoniyi came off his line quickly to smother the threat.

Substitute Justin Sells almost made it 2-0 when Lee Hurst sent a through ball to him down the left hand side. Sells’ hard and low shot from just inside the box had Busby beat but went inches wide past the left post. Chad Carithers, a late substitute also had a great chance to score in last minute when he got free on a breakaway with only the keeper to beat., his chip shot going inches wide.
