Exhibition game of Sunday January 4, 1998.

The result of the exhibition game of Sunday January 4th, 1998 between the Toronto Lynx and the Ontario Soccer Academy played at The Soccer Centre in Woodbridge Ontario (just north of Toronto) was a 2-1 win for the Lynx.

I had no lineups. There were none of the 1997 Lynx I could recognize but some players on their roster from last seasons CNSL. The OSA team was made up of under 19(?) players from this province who could feed into the national Olympic program. The Soccer Centre is the home base of the Ontario Soccer Association.

Goals:
5 min...Lynx "Number 15" redirects low cross.
31 min...OSA "Number 13" gets blast to right side from 15 yards.
80 min...Lynx "Number 15" gets header on cross from corner.

Final Score:.....Toronto Lynx......2 (1).........Ontario Soccer Academy.......1 (1).....

I don't remember much about this game as I'm typing this in April 1998 except for two incidents which are more with the environment of having the mid winter game played indoors than about any game play. The facility has a full size regulation soccer field inside a six story building. The spectators stand around on a railinged walkway about 15 feet higher than the field.

1. What do you do when the fire alarm rings? The referee blew the whistle, waited around about a minute for a signal and then ordered play continued. The fire alarm continued for about five minutes though. It noise was driving me out of the building though as the walls and ceilings create an echo as easy as saying "Hey You.....youyou"... so the alarm sounded even louder with the accoustic reverbarations. Fire trucks arrived but there was no fire.

2. What do you do when the ball hits the ceiling? The referee blew the whistle and ordered a freekick. The goalie had run out to beat a charging forward to a through ball. It did show how high soccer ball can be kicked.
