GLEN SHIELDS WIN
"BATTLE OF YORK REGION"
On Sunday evening at Richmond Green in the first meeting of the season between the two York Region teams in the CPSL (Ontario), Glen Shields Sun Devils defeated York Region Shooters by a 2 - 0 score.

There were few chances for either side before Glen Shields opened the scoring at the 30th. minute mark. Mike Glasgow broke through from the left wing but his shot was blocked by the Shooters goalkeeper. The ball rebounded to Robert Irvine who had no problem putting the ball into the empty net to give the Sun Devils a 1 - 0 lead..

Glasgow had another breakaway in the 42nd. minute but after rounding the keeper, his shot for goal was cleared off the line by a Shooters defender.

In the second half, York Region Shooters had a number of good opportunities but it was the Sun Devils who increased their lead in the 62nd. minute. Following a free kick just outside the penalty area, Glen Shields first hit the cross-bar, then the post and in the ensuing goal-mouth scramble, Mike Glasgow knocked the ball into the goal.

Glasgow caught the referee's attention again just two minutes later - but this time it was for a yellow card, his second of the game and an ejection. With York Region Shooters having the man advantage, they pushed forward to try and reduce the deficit but were unable to crack the Sun Devils defence.

The three points for the win lifted Glen Shields into first place in the league standings.
