The A-League, pro soccer's Division II in the U.S. which includes three teams in Canada, is just below Major League Soccer on the pyramid. Expanded from 24 teams to 28 teams in 1998, the A-League is the home to dozens of rising stars who could go on to star in MLS, play abroad and eventually wear their nation's colors in international competition. As part of the USISL's relationship with MLS, the 28th team in the A-League will be comprised entirely of Project-40 players from the MLS ranks that will travel from town to town to play each A-League team during the season.

Includes results of Wednesday July 29, 1998.
