With two new franchises north of the border -- the Montreal Dynamite and the Toronto Inferno -- the 1999 W-League will feature 16 teams. Also new in the top women's league: last year's W-2 champion, the Ft. Collins Force. Gone are Columbus, which has folded, and the New Jersey Wildcats, who will compete in the W-2 Division. Each W-1 team will play a 14-game regular-season schedule, with playoffs set to begin the weekend of Aug. 6-8 and the championship slated for the weekend of Aug. 13-15.
Northern Conference: Boston Renegades, Delaware Genies, Long Island Lady Riders, Maryland Pride, Montreal Dynamite, New Jersey Lady Stallions.
Southern Conference: Atlanta Classics, Charlotte Speed, Jackson Calypso, Raleigh Wings, Tampa Bay Extreme.
Central Conference: Chicago Cobras, Denver Diamonds, Ft. Collins Force, Rochester Ravens, Toronto Inferno.
