Toronto Lynx vs Staten Island Vipers
by Rocket Robin

Results of the A-League game between Toronto Lynx and Staten Island Vipers played at Varsity Stadium in Toronto Saturday September 4th/99 at 7:30pm.

8 min...Vipers Sal Leanti and Lynx Ricardo Munguia both get RED carded for what we could guess as a spitting incident on the edge of the Vipers box.

28 min...Lynx GOAL Francisco Dos Santos...Dos Santos on low 20 yard shot from left to short side, Rudy Doliscat earned an assist for tapping him a 3 yard pass to shake defender, Nikki Vignjevic had passed ball from right wing.

72 min...Lynx GOAL Brian Ashton...Ashton steps into 20 yard shot and blasts it to center of net. Lloyd Barker earns assist for giving him pass from the left.

77 min...Lynx RED card. Doliscat draws his 2nd yellow card of the night for hand ball at Lynx 40 yard line. We think it was dissent after that that earned him the card.

79 min...Lynx RED card. Dos Santos for taking too long to get off the field while being substituted and then dissent for argueing that call.

Lynx desparately hung on after that as Vipers couldn't hit the back of the net.

Final Score:....Toronto Lynx.....2.....Staten Island Vipers.....0

Referee Steve Dipierro was the star of the game. He refereed the Lynx--Rhinos game last week where he red carded Marco Reda at 52 minutes. The Vipers didn't like him nor the west side linesmen neither. Doliscat's yellow card was from argueing with the west side linesman too.

Vipers have a local connection. Ex Lynx players Rick Titus and Martin Dugas both played in the CNSL; Toronto born goaltender Peter Pappas; Guilano Oliviero who I was told played for Vancouver 86ers.

Vipers are the 2nd place team in the conference and needed this and a win against Rochester to capture 1st.

4 games in 4 nights. I'll complete 5 for 5 if I get to the CPSL league game--Glen Shields vs North York Astros.

Attendance was announced as 4544 and that overall there was a 40% increase from 1998!! (Of course now they will have to convince the crowds to follow them to a different stadium not yet decided on for next year).
