OLYMPIANS FIRST TO CLINCH
PLAYOFF SPOT

On a weekend that could have seen several teams clinch a spot in the playoffs, it was Toronto Olympians who became the first team - and so far the only team - to ensure a place in the end-of-season playoff competition. Olympians earned another three points with a convincing 6 - 1 win over London City and along with the playoff position it took them one step nearer their second consecutive regular league championship. Only Glen Shields Sun Devils and Toronto Croatia can now overtake Olympians in the league standings.

London City lost both of their weekend games but can still clinch a playoff berth with a win in their final league game against Toronto Croatia. However, even if they fail to pick up three points in their last game, it would require Oshawa Flames or York Region Shooters to win all four of their remaining games to beat out London for a playoff position.

Glen Shields Sun Devils could have clinched a playoff position with a win on Sunday but were held to a 3 - 3 tie at home to York Region Shooters. However, with only two points required from the remaining four games, they are almost guaranteed a spot in end-of-season action.

Toronto Croatia are the fourth team expecting to make the playoffs and they helped their own cause with a 2 - 0 win on Sunday over Oshawa Flames. Croatia currently hold a six-point lead over fifth-place St. Catharines Roma Wolves - last year's Playoff Champions - who despite a 2 - 1 win on Sunday over North York Astros are all but eliminated from the playoffs this year. Although they can match Croatia's point total with wins in their final two games they have to hope that Croatia lose their their last four games.
