GOAL FEST FOR YORK REGION SHOOTERS

In League Cup action on Sunday night, York Region Shooters scored 10 goals in a rout of the North York Astros. Both teams have struggled so far this year with Shooters only picking up their second win of the season last week and Astros having only one win to their name. When the two teams met in League Cup action on July 7th., they tied 1 - 1 at Richmond Green. However, in the return leg at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, it was all Shooters as they came away with a 10 - 2 win and the highest score so far in CPSL 1999 action. The three points also moved the Shooters into second place in Group 'A'.

Other action in Group 'A' saw Toronto Olympians douse the Flames by a 2 - 0 score. Ron Belfon opened the scoring for the Olympians in the 27th. minute and Elvis Thomas made it 2 - 0 with a goal in the 43rd. minute. The three points kept the Olympians perfect record for the season with seven straight wins in League and League Cup play. This was Oshawa Flames first game in the League Cup.

In Group 'B' action, Glen Shields Sun Devils hosted Toronto Croatia. The two teams had met last Sunday in regular league play with Glen Shields winning by a 3 - 1 score but the tables were turned this time and Toronto Croatia came away with a 2 - 0 win. The first goal came shortly before half time as a shot from Tom Granic was only blocked by Adam Morandini in the Glen Shields goal and Andy Madeiros picked up the rebound and put the ball into the net. Croatia's second goal was scored by Robert Mandekic in the 37th. minute. Although the Sun Devils had numerous scoring opportunities, the Croatia keeper, George Azcurra, played well to pick up the shut-out.
