'Hounds Put Bite on
Lynx Short staffed Toronto
beaten. From the Lynx
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds handed the Toronto Lynx
their six loss of the season tonight and in the process broke their own
five game losing streak.
The Lynx
traveled to Pittsburgh without four regulars, yet Peter Pinizzotto’s men
left Bethel Park with a great deal of credit for the way in which they
performed. Denied the
services of Kristian Grzetic, Adrian Seriuox, Fransisco Dos Santos and
Chris Pozniak the Lynx put up a spirited performance in front of 2, 313
spectators at Bethel Park Stadium.
Suspension, injuries and international commitments
ravaged the Toronto squad for the trip to Pittsburgh, yet the Lynx
remained confident they could achieve the desired result.
Their
confidence however, was short lived. The home team went ahead midway
through the first half.
David Flavius’s 31st minute marker put Pittsburgh
in control early in the match.
Ten minutes later Toronto was two behind. Pittsburgh’s second could not have
come at a worse time for the Lynx.
With only minutes remaining in the first-half, Alfredo knocked a
Ricardo Iribarin cross beyond Toronto goalkeeper Theo Zagar. This was a devastating blow for the
Lynx as up until that point they looked like they were going to find the
equalizer.
The
Riverhounds were more than happy to play it safe for the remainder of the
match, playing a tight defensive game as the Lynx went searching for
second-half salvation.
Without their top stars a two goal deficit was always going to be
impossible for the Lynx to pull back. Toronto however gave it everything
they had.
Skipper
Marco Reda almost pulled one back for Toronto late in time added on but
his effort was tipped over the bar by Pittsburgh ‘keeper Dedini. Although his side came out on the
wrong end of a two-nil loss, coach Peter Pinizzoto can be proud of his
team’s performance in less than ideal conditions.
