preseason Toronto Lynx vs Canadian/Ontario Selects Under 21s

Result of the preSeason game at Lamport Stadium in Toronto Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 at 7:00pm between Toronto Lynx and a squad considered Canada Selects Under 21s from Ontario.

Lynx starters were:

Robbie Aristodemo...Joe Mattacchione...Brian Ashton...David DiPlacido...Waldo Sponton
......Aaron Benjamin...Juan Arango

No shots on net until Lynx got one at the 24th minute
as the Selects were defensively competent.

38 minutes...Lynx GOAL...Arango slides in 7 yard shot to right side of net after receiving pass from right.

40 min...Lynx GOAL...Arango rolls in 5 yard shot while in alone with ball passed up the middle.

42 min...Lynx GOAL...Reda scores on diving header from 5 yards playing high cornerkick from left by Aristodemo.

44 min...Selects GOAL...Vincello scores an own goal as from 30 yards on left side of net he passes back to goalie who slips and ball rolls into net.

2nd Half
Chris Pozniak comes in at midfield.
Theo Zagar comes in at goal.
Miles O'Connor replaced Sponton.

51 min...Lynx GOAL...Benjamin pushes in 5 yard shot after Ashton centers short pass.

Robert Fran and Ervin Ryta at defense, Caswain Mason and Bobby Rendhawa at midfield, and a few Lynx players reappeared a second and third time in the 2nd half.

80 min...Lynx GOAL...Sponton takes 3 yard tap-in after Mason sends him low cross from the right.

82 min...Aristodemo is replaced by a new Peruvian guy currently on trial.

88 minutes...Selects get their first shot on net that goalie has to save as he makes a sliding save off a deflection. Theo then catches a crossed corner kick on follow up play.

Final Score:...Toronto Lynx.....5.....Canada Selects Under 21s.....1

About 25 in attendance at this closed door game including 5 of the Ultras. Unnumbered uniforms and no roster of the Selects means I didn't bother doing play by play notes. That'll wait until the regular season.
