Result of the pre-Season game between the A-League Toronto Lynx and
the Brampton Hitmen of the CPSL played Saturday April 28th, 2001 at Lamport
Stadium in Toronto at 1:00pm on a cool and sunny afternoon.
The Hitmen were
a substitute for the OSL team Sora Lazio.
Lynx wore unnumbered gray
sweatshirts, Hitmen wore black socks and shorts, orange shirts with white
numbers.
Lynx starting lineup:
................Theo
Zagar (although it might have been Tom Zawislan)
Adrian Serioux...Marco Reda...Mauricio Vincello
Robbie
Aristodemo...Brian Ashton...Lyndon Hooper...David DiPlacido...Waldo
Sponton
........Kristian Grzetic...Juan Arango
7 min...Lynx GOAL
Arango...Grzetic rushes down right side and crosses from 25 yards in deep
corner, ball is headed in on redirection by charging Arango to short right side
from 5 yards.
23 min...Lynx GOAL Ashton on a Penalty shot...Ashton rolls
shot to right corner of net.
40 min...Lynx GOAL Grzetic...Grzetic taps in
ball after Benjamin in box flubs a shot as he's falling, Sponton had crosses
ball in from left.
2nd Half:...during this half, Lynx subbed Bobby
Rendhawa for an injured Grzetic, goalie Yuri Elkaim for Zagar, Caswain Mason for
Hooper, somebody for Sponton, and Robert Fran and another defender for Serioux
and Reda.
72 min...Lynx GOAL DiPlacido... DiPlacido is pushed a short
pass 20 yards out in middle of filed and he rushes in 5 yards and slides shot to
low left side of net beyond sprawling goalie.
83 min...Lynx GOAL
Benjamin...Benjamin slides in 5 yard shot in empty net after Mason (?) fast
break down right side from sideline and crosses ball into box.
Final
Score:...Toronto Lynx.....5....Brampton Hitmen...0
Two injuries to Lynx
players: The Hitmen's defender #6
kicks high after ball rolls by him and
kicks Arango in the face just inside the box which referee immediately awarded a
penalty kick at 20 minutes. Arango was helped from the field and subbed by
Benjamin.
50th minute...Grzetic was injured when the Hitmen goalie slid
out to make a save and Grzetic flips over him injuring his ankle.
The
Hitmen goalies were outstanding in each half stopping a few breakaways each.
Gary Fleming was in for the first half and Adrian Trucido for the
second.
Their coach Paul Kitson has not joined the team yet. This was their
first game ever! They're still having tryouts but I would drop them into the
middle of the pack of last year's CPSL teams playing a team of the Lynx calibre
and I can see them getting better.
This game was another closed door
session but about 15 Ultra fans watched the game of total fans of
30.
