Fury Take Trioctal Cup
Consolation for sub-par season.
From the Fury

The Ottawa Fury closed out the 2001 W-League regular season with  a 2-1 victory over Ontario rival Toronto Inferno.  The Fury and Inferno play the home and home "Battle of Ontario" for the rights to win the TRIOCTAL CUP as Ontario Champions.  On July 15, Toronto defeated Ottawa, 3-2, in overtime. With Ottawa's one-goal win tonight, the tie breaker to determine the First Annual Trioctal Cup Champion came down to Ottawa outscoring Toronto 2 to 1 on road goals.  The teams were even with a victory each and each scored 4 goals, the next time breaker is goals scored on the road.

With the victory Ottawa finishes fifth in the Northern Division with a 5-6-3 record for 26 points.  The team record was 6-5-3 in 2000. The Fury goal scorers were Danielle Vella on a Penalty Kick at the 30th minute and Stephanie Young scoring her first W-League Goal at the 36th minute to give Ottawa a 2-0 halftime advantage.  The Fury continued to control the match in the second half except for a Toronto goal in the 86th minute by Maggie Mason.

Tania Singfield earned her fourth victory of the season by making three saves.  Ottawa outshot Toronto 7 to 4.  The crowd was the largest of the eight home matches at close to 1,000 fans.
