TORONTO TO HOST W-LEAGUE PLAYOFF MATCH

August 7, 2001- This past weekend the Toronto Inferno secured the second
seed in the W-League’s Northern Conference and will play host to the Boston
Renegades in W-League playoff action this Friday night. The Inferno lost 2
to 1 at the Ottawa Fury and was given the points as the Laval Dynamites
forfeited their match with the Inferno.

The match against the Fury also doubled as the second leg of the Trioctal
Cup with the Inferno holding a 3 to 2 aggregate lead. Two first half goals
would be all the Fury would need to win the cup, Danielle Vella converted a
penalty and then set up Stephanie Young before the break. Maggie Mason
replied late for the Inferno, bouncing a shot to the far corner from the top
of the 18. The Fury take the first ever Trioctal Cup on the away goals rule
with the score tied 4 a piece.

After 14 matches it comes down to a do or die encounter with the Boston
Renegades. The Renegades finished third in the conference, 3 points behind
the Inferno. However, they have proved to be a difficult foe, tying the
Inferno in Toronto and then blanking them 3 nil in Framingham. On Friday
night, a place in the conference finals is at stake, kickoff will be at
7:00pm EST. at Scarborough’s Birchmount Stadium.

The Toronto Inferno is an elite women’s soccer team, which competes in the
United Soccer Leagues’ W-League. Schedule and ticketing information is
