Attendance was about 80 for this game on this warm sunny day but its time was moved up one week on short notice. There could not be an announcement at Flames last home game because these changes were just
made.
The Flames had several players I didn't know but today was midfielder Pat Sullivan's wedding and some players were attending. Canada's U-20 goaltender Peiter Meulemann is away attending Laurier University but today Dave
Staley was brilliant stopping breakaways as was Wizards goalie Richard Goddard.
In the 77th minute Goddard collapsed in the box before taking a goal kick as he told me later he'd overextended his left side earlier in the game on two of his customary long throws. I wondered why Wizards have such a low
goals against and he's the one reason. The defenders were beaten a few times by misplaying headers and even falling for a quick throw-in for a breakaway as they stood around and watched a ball boy run across the track to chase a ball and a Flames player throwing in the spare sideline ball.
With this game, the Wizards take over first place in the league. Both they and 2nd place Toronto
Olympians have a game tomorrow. 2:00pm Olympians vs Glen Shields Sun Devils and
5:30pm Brampton Hitmen vs Wizards. I hope to get to both games and pass on the
4:45pm game downtown of Supra vs NY Astros.
