IT'S CHAMPIONSHIP
TIME!
But one-game deciders may be necessary as top four placings still
undecided in tight race for the playoffs
There is little doubt that this
coming weekend the CPSL league title will be decided when Ottawa Wizards host
defending CPSL champions Toronto Olympians in the last regular league game of
the season for these two teams. Both have been favourites for the top position
for some weeks now. Ottawa will play Montreal Dynamites on Saturday, a 6.30 p.m.
kickoff at the OZ Stadium, but any results from that game still leaves the
league title in doubt until the Wizards-Olympians clash the following day.
Just as interesting, is the race for the third and fourth positions with
no less than four teams, Toronto Supra, St. Catharines Roma Wolves, Montreal
Dynamites and Toronto Croatia all with a chance for the two remaining playoff
berths. St. Catharines play their last regular game of the season this Friday
night and it's a crucial one with a win against Toronto Croatia needed if the
team from the Niagara Peninsula is to finish in the top four.
The
Dynamites and Croatia have one big advantage—both have two games in hand over
the Roma Wolves.
If any two teams are tied on points for a top four
position, a one-game decider will be played.
When the standings are in
place for the top four positions, the stage is almost set for the Rogers Cup,
emblematic of the CPSL Championship to be played at Club Roma, St. Catharines
during the weekend October 12, 13 and 14. If the Roma Wolves are not in the top
four, they have a one last chance opportunity to make it to the semi-finals. As
host of the playoffs, they have an opportunity to play the fourth place team to
decide that all-important fourth position. If this Wild Card game is necessary,
it will be played at Club Roma next Friday, October 12.
