Bayette wins big for
Olympians
Toronto Olympians forward
Bayette Smith scored a tying goal with just four minutes remaining, then
the winning goal right on 90 minutes, to give his team a 3-2 win over St.
Catharines Roma at Birchmount Stadium here tonight. The win was a
six-pointer for Olympians, the difference between winning and losing to
their nearest rivals in the bid for top position in the CPSL standings.
Olympians jump to a six-point lead in the top spot with an improving 9-5-1
W-L-T record, while St. Catharines stay at 22 points (6-5-4) and are now
tied with Toronto Supra following Supra's 0-0 tie with Ottawa Wizards on
Saturday night. In the only other game played in a Sunday schedule of four
games wiped out by torrential rain, Montreal Dynamites picked up three
points by winning a 1-0 squeaker over Toronto Supra at Brockton Stadium in
Toronto's west-end. The win lifts Dynamites to a sixth place
position in the standings with a 6-4-1 record and
tied with 19
points with Durham Flames who were idle over the entire weekend. Jocelyn
Roy was the goalscorer for the Dynamites, scoring a picture goal in the
top corner from 20 yards at the 18th. minute mark.
