RETAIN TOP SPOT
ST. CATHARINES--St.
Catharines Roma Wolves maintained their position at the top of the
standings following a 1-1 tie with Durham Flames in CPSL action here
tonight. Durham took the lead after nine minutes on a goal by Craig Patton
and Wolves' Gary McGuchan tied the game one minute to half-time. St.
Catharines have a 5-3-3 won-lost-tied record for 18 points, two points
ahead of Durham now in the runner-up position with a 5-2-1 record for 16
points.
In other CPSL league play, Montreal Dynamites and York Region Shooters played to a 2-2 tie at the Claude Robillard Stadium in Montreal. The Dynamites goals were scored by Chris Stathopoulos and Jerry Pean, while Roberto Pagiaroli and Vince Forescieri struck for the Shooters, all goals being scored in the first half.
There was one qualifying game in the OZ Optics League Cup with Toronto Olympians scoring a 1-0 Group D win over North York Astros at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough. Tom Granic's goal was enough to give Olympians their second win for six points to head the group, well in front of the Astros and York Region Shooters, each with a point from two games played. Olympians 'keeper Brian Bowes earned the shut-out.
