CPSL game of Wednesday June 27th, 2001.

CPSL game between Brampton Hitmen and St Catharines Roma Wolves played at Victoria Stadium in Brampton at 8:30pm. This was considered a Cup game.

The Hitmen ented to a smoke screen and fireworks. The game was broadcast live by Rogers Cable TV on their Community channel.

1st Half:...game starts 8:46pm...Hitmen defend east end. There is a non-working scoreboard in the far corner so all times are converted from my wristwatch.
2 min...Wolves player gets back to boot ball off line when BH players on 2 on 1 breakaway.
3 min...BH Valentim cornerkick from right is caught by leaping goalie.
5 min...Wolves Sozio injured at BH 40 yard line on sliding tackle.
7 min...Wolves McGutchan 12 yard header well wide of net.
13 min...Wolves goalie boots ball from ground and bounces to BH goalie steeping in front of Wolves forward.
19 min...BH Janando gets through ball on right and Wolves Borgh races back to boot ball out of bounds.
20 min...BH forward called for bashing defender running into Wolves box.
23 min...Hitmen GOAL Mella...BH Handsor feeds Mella a through ball up the middle and he rolls ball into left corner of net from 12 yards over sprawling Wolves goalie.
25 min...Wolves goalie picks up BH player's 25 yard roller.

Halftime:...soccer balls are given to the kids in attendance. Water bottles were thrown into the crowd. The songwriter of "Who Let The Dogs Out" was introduced. Since the pregame and halftime music was hip-hop and soca, he was just in his type of event.

50 min...Wolves goalie catches 40 yard shot into box.
51 min...Wolves Tony Carbonara passes ahead into box but too far for Wolves Cromack.
52 min...Wolves McGutchan 20 yard freekick on right is blasted wide left.
54 min...Wolves goalie picks up cross from right into box.
55 min...Wolves Tony Carbonara partially flicked header from 10 yards bounces wide left after Wolves chip from right into box.

60 min...BH goalie called for infraction when he slides out and Wolves Tony Carbonara trips over him. The goalie was inside his box when he started his slide. Penalty kick called.

The penalty kick shot was called when Hitmen goalie Silva slid outside his box when making a save. The referee Steve Cahoon confirmed with Hitman coach Paul Kitson after the game that it wasn't handball outside the box (the ball was even with his legs by then) but tripping up Wolves player Tony Carbonara rushing for the ball.

Hitmen goalie Paulo Silva is the goalkeeping coach of the A-League Toronto Lynx and is usually listed as the third goalie on the Lynx roster. Well this is a way of keeping in game shape!

Wolves goalie Dino Perri tightened up his defense during the first half sounding like the father in that old "We're Not Going To Take It" video and then again at halftime. Through balls just didn't happen as often in the second half!

I thought the attendance was about 400. This was the last day of school and the team did a good job of packing the stands with kids many in their soccer uniforms.

The game was broadcast live on Rogers Cable but you had to live in Brampton to see it. Chris Bellamy was the colour commentator and said that within three weeks the CPSL will have a half hour show that will be shown all over Ontario!
