Pregame ceremony: this is Toronto Croatia's first game at Memorial Stadium. Mississauga's mayor Hazel McCallion took the ceremonial kick off and earlier there was banter whether the team name would change to 'Mississauga Croatia'.

1st Half:...game starts 8:19pm...TC defend north end on this warm evening with the sun setting in the northwest. There is no scoreboard so all times are converted from my wristwatch.
4 min...YS Mills makes sliding tackle from behind to break TC forward's breakaway.
9 min...TC Musa 20 yard freekick from right is tipped off bar for goalkick.
14 min...TC Curic shoulders down cross on left edge of box and blasts 18 yard shot well over net.
15 min...referee cautions YS officials to move away from the sideline.
17 min...TC GOAL Bucic...Bucic from 10 yards juggles ball and midair kicks ball from right into left top corner of net while surrounded by defenders.
19 min...TC Karaga blasts 40 yard shot from right wide and high left of net.
20 min...TC GOAL Curic...Curic racing through middle of field receives high bouncer from TC goalie's kick and partially heads ball behind charging YS goalie on edge of his box and ball rolls into right corner of net.

The crowd was about 250 people. Toronto Croatia are playing at Memorial Stadium in Streetsville (Mississauga) while Etobicoke Centennial Stadium is undergoing renovation. Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion took the opening kickoff then quickly disappeared (hmmm? no hockey tonight).

The field is extremely small. The south goal has a ravine and woods behind it and the west side has a heavily wooded hillside. By the second half, the officials were running out of balls. They had given out some balls for souvenirs to kids and I think they were just short of asking for a few back. Frustrating for the Shooters when they were behind as tried to keep the balls in play. (Remember that poster years ago where two soccer teams are playing on the edge of four cliffs and the ball falls into the sea?).
When I saw six goals in the first half, I didn't expect the scoring to stop.

I was warned that this place will be bad when the mosquitos really get going but they were just starting tonight. This city may be the permanent home of Toronto Olympians next year.
