Lynx winless in seven matches
TORONTO (CP) --
Goals two minutes apart in the second half gave the Rochester
Raging Rhinos a
2-1 win over the Toronto Lynx in A-League soccer action
Saturday
night.
The loss extended the Lynx's winless streak to seven
games and the team fell further
behind of the Northeast division-leading
Rhinos.
The Lynx remain in third place in the Northeast with
38 points, one point ahead of the
Montreal Impact.
Toronto opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Adrian
Serioux redirected a Joe
Mattachione shot past Rochester goalkeeper Scott
Vallow.
Rochester evened the score in the 52nd minute.
Canadian national team midfielder
Martin Nash played a cross in for Onandi
Lowe. The Jamaican forward headed the ball
beyond the reach of Lynx
goalkeeper Theo Zagar and caromed into the net off the post.
Two minutes later, Carlos Zavala hit a left-footed shot that
Yari Allnutt managed to
steer in past Zagar for his sixth goal of the season.
Rochester outshot Toronto 16-10 before 12,611 fans. Both
teams were shown two
yellow cards.
The Lynx were missing
forward Francisco Dos Santos to injury and defender Milan
Kojic through
suspension.
The two teams return to Toronto for the second
game of a home-and-home Sunday at
Varsity Stadium.
