It was an All-Canadian showdown at Swangard as the
86ers produced some overtime fireworks to defeat the high flying Toronto
Lynx 2-1 in overtime. Two subs combined on the winner, with Burnaby's Dave
Morris netting his 2nd goal and 2nd game-winner of the season.
Mother nature also got in on the show with a ferocious and frigid pre-game
hail, rain, and lightning storm that took its toll on the night's
attendance figure.
The first half was scoreless with Toronto having
most of the chances, including Brazilian forward Francisco Dos Santos
hitting the bar with a quick 22-yard shot in the 34th minute.
Toronto and Vancouver traded early goals just three minutes apart to start
the second half, both on headers.
Vancouver almost had a
winner late in regulation, as Geordie Lyall cracked a 33-yard rocket which
Toronto keeper Theo Zagar touched against the bar in the 81st
minute. Vancouver's two goal were only the 7th and 8th to beat
Zagar, the A-League's top keeper. This was also the most goals that
Toronto had surrendered all year. Paul Shepherd got the start in the
86ers goal, and was named the game's first star, making 7
saves.
Vancouver's record goes to 5W-5L-3T and 26 points, while the
Lynx fall to 7W-2L-3T and 33 points, 2nd in the Northeast Division.
The 86ers remains in 6th place in the Pacific Division, but have at least
one game in hand on all the other teams.

of the bar.
52' Vanc 1-1 Steve MacDonald (Kevin

A Holness corner from the left was neatly directed down
and inside the far post by MacDonald's flashing header. It was the

Morris (Joe Scigliano)
Scigliano broke down the left, fired a hard
shot which Zagar saved, got the rebound and scuffed it over to Morris in
front who stretched to loop a volley into the goal from 7 yards past two
defenders on the line.
