TORONTO--Francisco Dos Santos lobbed a
10-yard shot over 'keeper Peter Zaratin in the 26th minute to give the
Toronto Lynx a 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact Sunday in front of 2,420
at Varsity Stadium.
Dos Santos and Lloyd Barker both missed on
dangerous chances in the first half.
The Impact pressed hard
after the intermission, but saved their most serious threats for the
closing minutes. Lynx netminder Theo Zagar faced down Montreal's Francois
Abraham twice, tipping one header around the post and pulling down another
just off the goal line. In a final desperate attempt to equalize, the
entire Impact lineup, including Zaratin, crowded into the Montreal penalty
area to try and capitalize on a last-second free kick.
