BETHEL PARK, Pa.--The Toronto Lynx and
Pittsburgh Riverhounds played to the
first tie in A-League history,
1-1Saturday in front of 4,223 at Bethel Park
High
School.
Pittsburgh defender John Jones had the best chance to come
up with a "golden goal," teeing up a penalty kick in the 103rd minute.
Goalkeeper Theo Zagar
made the save to keep the Lynx
alive.
Jones' was the Riverhounds' second penalty kick opportunity
of the 48-foul contest. Tenywah Bonseu beat Zagar in the 70th minute,
after midfielder Jamon Tripoli was sent sprawling in the penalty box, to
give Pittsburgh a short-lived 1-0 lead.
Barely two minutes later,
Brian Ashton snagged a rebound in front of the Pittsburgh goal and tapped
the ball to David DiPlacido, who roofed a hard
shot over netminder
Randy Dedini.
The Lynx outshot Pittsburgh 12-9. Both 'keepers
finished with four saves.
