Over 18000 tickets were sold for tonight's North York Astros game
against Toronto Olympians in the CPSL. Tickets were only $1 each but because the
prizes were donated by sponsers, that's $18000 (less a few hundred for printing
costs) directly to the club.
The bait was an eight prize draw with the
best prize being a trip for two to England. So many tickets were sold because
the buyers didn't have to be present to claim their prize. There were actually
about 100 people in the stands.
45 seconds...TO Eddy Berdusco
GOAL...Berdusco hits 35 yard freekick to top right corner of net beyond leaping
goalie. There was no bend at all the ball just went straight in! A David Beckham
shot!
9 min...Astros Andrei Malychenkov GOAL...Malychenkov pops ball over
defender and then takes 20 yard midair shot that finds goalie about 5 yards off
his line and ball tucks in just under cross bar.
40 min...TO Gus
Kouzmanis GOAL...Kouzmanis gets breakaway as defender does the splits but then
Gus rolls a 20 yard shot that is just to right of goalie and rolls into
right corner of net.
66 min...TO Eddy Berdusco GOAL...Berdusco blasts 20
yard shot from left into right corner of net after stopping a defender's bicycle
kick clearance attempt in the box.
Final Score:....North York
Astros....1....Toronto Olympians.....3.....
Toronto Olympians now pull
even with St Catharines Roma Wolves in the standings and if both teams win their
last game of the year, Olympians will be the League champions because of the
better goals for/against ratio.
