CPSL league kickoff: Toronto Croatia vs Toronto Olympians

Oh boy! The game scheduled to kick off the CPSL season between Toronto Croatia and Toronto Olympians was called off because of a 'severe thunderstorm warning'. I'm not sure if it was Parks and Recreation department but on the surrounding fields were softball players and other soccer games going on. Driving home, I came across a minor league game with 10 year olds playing in a nearby schoolyard.

At 8:00pm there were just a few clouds in the sky.
Maybe they were spooked by the EARTHQUAKE that Toronto had in the early morning. Top news story that it reached 3 something on the Richter scale, didn't even rattle the dishes of anyone they interviewed for news.

Back to the stadium, the gates were padlocked and I found the news out from a groundskeeper so I could tell Dick Howard and league commissioner Bill Spiers. A crowd of about 40 people milled around the parking lot, who knows how many had left already.

Now it would have been nice to read about the game schedules on the CPSL website, but it is still advertising upgaming games for September 1999!

It's now almost 9:30pm. There's not a drop of rain and there probably won't be until midnight.

Follow up added June 10th:......Apparently the city ordered the stadium closed because that area had experienced a three hour power failure in the late afternoon. This caught the league by surprize with little time to warn anyone except the two teams not to show up.
