Shooters get victory, Olympians move into second, Croatia still in first
It was a busy weekend in the CPSL.  The York Shooters got their first victory of the season edging the Astros 2-1 at Ester Shiner.

Astros opened the scoring at the 22nd minute on a goal by Andrei Macychenkov, six minutes later Willy Guimarra tied the score.  The score remained 1-1 until the 69th minute when Rob Black knocked in the winner giving the Shooters 3 pts.  Toronto Olympians downed the Sun Devils 3-0 on goals by Biate Smith, Arte Alakatov and Gus Kouzmanis.

The victory gave the Olympians 13 pts. and a solid hold on second place.  Toronto Croatia remained in first place with a resounding 5-0 win over London City.

Wednesday's match up features the Sun Devils hosting the North York Astros at Dufferin Clark.  A victory by Glen Shields could move them into a tie for fourth place with London City.  Oshawa Flames travel to Centennial Stadium to take on the Toronto Croatia.

Toronto Croatia holds on to first, City Shuts down Flames

St. Catharines Roma Wolves moved into a tie for second place with Toronto Olympians with a 1-0 win on the road against Toronto Croatia.  In a game that produced eight yellow cards and one red, Joe Carbonara shocked the Croatian fans with a quick goal three minutes into the second half.

The goal came from a direct free kick 4 yards just outside the penalty area when Carbonara's curling free kick snuck into the top left hand corner.  That goal gave margin when referee Neil Scholfield awarded a penalty in injury time.  CPSL goalkeeper of the year in 1999, George Azcurra, made a brilliant save and kept Croatia's goal difference at +8.

London City moved into sole possession of third place as they edged the Oshawa Flames 2-1 before a packed house at the Cove, the sight of this years Primus Cup.

It took only ten minutes for City to get on the score board when Ryan Thomson scored on a well paced shot just outside the penalty area.  City had earlier had a goal called back (8 min.) from a direct free kick. Score was 1-0 for City at the half.

Ciaran McCarthy made it 2-0 for City at the 60 minute as he chipped a nice ball over the head of the rushing Flames keeper.  The Flames made it interesting in the last 15 minutes as Jimmy Kuzmanovski scored at the 75th minute, and that goal switched the momentum, City was able to weather the storm and took the 3 pts.

City travel to Centennial on Sunday to take on League leaders Toronto Croatia; Glen Shields will be looking to upset the Toronto Olympians at Birchmount; and Ester Shiner will be the location of Astors vs the Shooters, where both teams will be looking for their first victory of the season.

In exhibition play, Guatemala came back to score a late goal against Canada, the final was Canada 3 - Guatemala 3.
